Six times! Liverpool MUST improve this statistic to get their season back on track

first_img Liverpool’s defence has worsened over the past few months 1 Liverpool’s fragile backline cost them yet again on Wednesday night, as the Merseysiders surrendered a 2-1 lead, to draw away 2-2 with European minnows Ludogorets to leave their Champions League aspirations hanging by a threat. While their continental adventure is not over yet – victory over FC Basel will see them progress to the knockout stages – the Reds’ capitulation late on continued the theme of conceding at the death, something that usually denotes a bad team.Indeed, while Liverpool have scored eight times in the last 15 minutes of matches this campaign (including League Cup extra time), they have proven to be even more susceptible to conceding, seeing NINE goals go in during this same period of time.Unfortunately it gets worse for the Redmen, with SEVEN of those goals coming AFTER 85 MINUTES.In all competitions this season Liverpool have been one goal ahead after 85 minutes on SIX occasions, only to LOSE that lead every time.On the occasions that they have surrendered their lead, they have gone on to WIN JUST TWO of those games, one owing to a late winner against Ludogorets and the other via a penalty shootout victory over Middlesbrough.Defensive frailties have been a massive concern to Liverpool this season and while many point to their struggles to score goals, it is the Reds’ backline that has been the biggest undoing.Rodgers invested a small fortune to improve this area of the pitch and while he is yet to get his defenders performing at their best, should he manage to get them purring, he may just save Liverpool’s season.Liverpool fans, do you back Rodgers to fix your defence?
