Aussie travellers flock to Jordan

first_imgJust last month US President Barack Obama dubbed Jordan’s Petra “pretty spectacular” and Australians seem to agree, Australian numbers to Jordan showing sustained growth since at least September last year.From floating in the salty waters of the Dead Sea to visiting historical sites made famous in films, Jordan’s attractions are enticing Australians like never before.According to Jordan Tourism Board’s Australian representative, Nicole Lenoir-Jourdan, Australians are visiting Jordan in growing numbers, “many saying it is at the top of their bucket list”.e-Travel Blackboard was in Jordan and spoke with Jordan Tourism Board managing director Abed Al Razzaq Arabiyat, who said the tourism body was intent on promoting Jordan to Australians.“Australia is a new market and a new focus for us,” Dr Arabiyat told e-Travel Blackboard.Jordan Tourism Board is set to invest in an array of marketing efforts, including a series of familiarisation trips and road shows.“Jordan’s ‘oil’ is tourism and hence their people are incredibly warm to visitors,” Ms Lenoir-Jourdan said.Sometimes referred to as the ‘Switzerland of the Middle East’, Jordan, with its relatively stable government was further endorsed by President Obama who said Jordan “has always been a safe haven”.Over the past five months, travellers from Australia to Jordan have increased by the following amounts: September by 28.2 percent, October by 14.8 percent, November by 6.4 percent, December by 0.4 percent and January by 19.6 percent.
