Refreshments served afterwards.Cathaoirleach Cllr. Seamus O’Domhnaill is delighted with the response to this year’s Big Donegal Clean-up.Bags of rubbish collected following community clean up on Arranmore Island last weekend. He said “It never ceases to amaze me the sense of community we have here in Donegal and this response simply reinforces this for me. There is no way that the Council would have the resources to keep every road and public area in the county clean, and that’s why the work that these people do is so important.“These people are our unsung heroes and are the backbone of our communities and they should be highly commended for all the work they do. While this work is very important from a tourism perspective, it is about more than that. It is about caring for our own environment and about the pride we have in our own communities and I would ask our illegal dumpers and litter bugs to take a minute and think about the effort these people are making.“Every piece of litter that is thrown out of a car window must be lifted by someone, every bag of rubbish that is dumped illegally must be collected by someone. I would ask you to think again. Your reckless action is endangering natural habitats and creating an unsightly mess that reflects badly on everyone in the community.” Get involvedAnyone who would like to take part in any of the clean-ups mentioned can find more information on times and meeting points at bit.ly/DonegalCleanUp.There is still plenty of time to take part in the Big Donegal Clean Up by organising a clean-up in your own area. All you have to do is call the Council on 074 91 53900 or call into to any Council office to register. Donegal County Council provides bags, pickers and high vis vests and then collects the rubbish from designated points at agreed times.Bags of rubbish collect at Clar BeachHundreds out and about this weekend as part of Big Donegal Clean Up was last modified: April 4th, 2019 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Big Clean-updonegallast_img read more

Stranorlar hit-and-run Gardaí appeal after man left with broken ribs following crash

first_imgGardaí in Letterkenny are appealing for witnesses to a hit and run that occurred on Saturday in Stranorlar. The incident happened on Saturday evening close to Nena Models in the Twin Towns area. The van pulled out of Dunwiley and struck the passing car. The driver of the car, which had a five-year-old passenger on board, was left with broken ribs and a lot of bruising. The van failed to stop and drove off following the incident which took place around 8pm.The van, which was white in colour, struck the car so hard that it forced it into a spin which knocked down a nearby wall.Speaking to Donegal Daily yesterday (Mon), the man’s partner, Louise Thompson, appealed for anybody who may know who was driving the van to contact Gardai. Louise said: “Thankfully no one is too badly hurt but what kinda person does this? The car is written off and claiming off our own insurance hardly seems fair.“The guards say more than likely someone was drunk or with no insurance. That’s no help to us.“If we claim off our insurance it’ll probably go up €2000 at least a year. We have already paid over €3,000 for the insurance for the year.”Gardaí have urged witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage to come forward. The driver of the van has also been encouraged to make himself available to Gardaí. Anyone with information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 0749167100 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.Stranorlar hit-and-run Gardaí appeal after man left with broken ribs following crash was last modified: October 22nd, 2019 by Shaun KeenanShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

first_imgCristiano Ronaldo Back on top: Ronaldo leads La Liga in goals in 2018 Goal Last updated 1 year ago 06:05 2/11/18 FacebookTwitterRedditcopy Comments(23) Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid Real Sociedad La Liga Gonzalo Arroyo Moreno Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid Real Madrid v Real Sociedad Real Sociedad Primera División Los Blancos’ star man has had a resurgence in the second half of the La Liga season and leads the list of top scorers since the turn of the year Cristiano Ronaldo is rounding into form in 2018. The Real Madrid superstar endured a terrible start to the season and spent the first half of the campaign struggling to find the net as his team stumbled time and again, leading to arch rivals Barcelona holding a commanding 19-point lead heading into the weekend. The Ballon d’Or winner winner netted just four league goals in the first half of the season, leading some to question if he was on the decline.  Article continues below Editors’ Picks Lyon treble & England heartbreak: The full story behind Lucy Bronze’s dramatic 2019 Liverpool v Man City is now the league’s biggest rivalry and the bitterness is growing Megan Rapinoe: Born & brilliant in the U.S.A. A Liverpool legend in the making: Behind Virgil van Dijk’s remarkable rise to world’s best player But the Portuguese forward has gotten 2018 off to a flying start, adding three more goals to his tally in Saturday’s win over Real Sociedad. The goals brought Ronaldo’s league count to seven since the turn of the year, the best among all La Liga players in that time, with his full league count now standing at 11 on the season.  Saturday’s goals came in style as well, with the 33-year-old netting a “perfect hat-trick” by scoring with both feet and his head as Madrid rolled to a 5-2 win, making him the first to accomplish that feat in Spain’s top flight this season. It’s also notable that when Ronaldo scores, his side tends to win. The Madrid ace has now scored in six La Liga matches this season, with all six ending victory for Los Blancos. 3 – Cristiano Ronaldo is the first player to score a perfect hat-trick in La Liga this season (right foot, left foot and head).
