Giroud is key for Arsenal, says Quinn, as ex-Gunner expresses fears over injury

first_imgNiall Quinn says Olivier Giroud will be a huge loss for Arsenal if his ankle injury proves as serious as first feared.Giroud is undergoing scans to determine whether he has fractured a bone in his left foot, which would leave him out for around three months. With Yaya Sanogo the only other recognised striker at the club, Quinn claims Arsene Wenger can ill afford to lose the Frenchman.“Giroud is a very, very important player,” said the former Gunners hitman, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.“Away from home especially, I love the way he battles for them. He has done so now since he came to the club.“He doesn’t always get the rewards at the end of it, other players sometimes come in for the goals, but he is key.”And Quinn has warned Wenger he may find it difficult to bring in another top class forward before the transfer window closes, should Giroud be a long-term absentee. He continued: “[Alexis] Sanchez is flexible and can play up there but there is a big need for somebody to make a presence in Giroud’s absence and where are they going to get him now at this stage?“They will have people on their minds even though they didn’t know Giroud would get injured, but it will be important that they click something into gear in the next few days.”last_img read more
