It’s the second team to reach the landmark after Australia, who have 558 wins in ODIs.It has taken India 45 years to win 500 ODIs after playing its first game in the format against England at Leeds on July 13, 1974 in the Prudential Trophy. The nation has featured in 963 ODIs till date.India’s first ODI win had come under captain Srinivas Venkataraghavan against East Africa in the inaugural Cricket World Cup at Leeds on June 11 in 1975. The 100th win had was registered against South Africa in 1993 while the remaining four milestone wins came in the new millennium.In the Nagpur ODI on Tuesday, Virat Kohli smashed 116 runs and Vijay Shankar took two wickets in the final over to secure a nail-biting eight-run win for India against Australia in the second one day international on Tuesday.Chasing India’s 251 to level the five-match series, Australia got off to a strong start before the hosts roared back into the contest with some disciplined bowling.It all came down to the final over, with the tourists needing 11 runs to win with two wickets in hand. But Shankar struck twice in the first three balls of the over and Australia were all out for 242. India now take a 2-0 lead into Friday’s third ODI in Ranchi.advertisementKohli’s century in India’s innings was his 40th in one-day internationals. He overtook former Australia captain Ricky Ponting in the list of most centuries in the format and is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar, who leads the charts with 49 centuries.Kohli also drew level with Tendulkar with his fourth hundred against Australia in India.It also happened to be Kohli’s second hundred against Australia this year. In Adelaide, Kohli had scored 104 as India chased down 299 against Australia in the second match of a three-ODI series.Overall, this was Kohli’s 7th ODI hundred against Australia. Sachin Tendulkar leads the list for batsmen with most centuries in India-Australia ODIs with nine hundreds.
