Van Gaal blow! Man United target to undergo knee surgery

first_imgManchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Kevin Strootman, after Roma announced the midfielder is to undergo knee surgery on Friday.The Holland international has only recently returned to action after a nine month spell on the sidelines with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.United boss Louis van Gaal has been linked with the 24-year-old since his Old Trafford appointment in May, but Roma revealed they would only be willing to listen to a “stupid” offer for the player.A statement from Roma read: “Yesterday Kevin Strootman underwent further diagnostic procedures with professors Van Dijk and Kerkhoffs, who previously operated on him.“The examination revealed a mass of fibrous tissue [known as Cyclops Syndrome], which it is advised should be removed.“The player is due to undergo arthroscopic surgery in Amsterdam tomorrow, during which the ligament will also be assessed.”But Strootman is optimistic of a speedy recovery, posting on his official Twitter account: “It is nothing serious and I will be back on the pitch as soon as possible.” Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman 1last_img
