The Bulldogs won the first meeting, 28-11, in the 2000 season opener. Drake has dropped its first two games of the season, falling to Quincy, 38-35 in the season opener and at No. 9 South Dakota State, 56-28, last week. McKendree enters Saturday’s contest with a 2-0 record after beating Angelo State, 33-19, and West Liberty 16-15, respectively. The Bulldogs have a one-two punch in the backfield with running backs Conley Wilkins and Drew Lauer, who was named this week’s PFL Special Teams Player of the Week. In his first collegiate game, Lauer rushed for 79 yards on nine carries, while Wilkins found the end zone twice and rushed for 62 yards in the season opener against Quincy. Last week at No. 9 South Dakota State, Lauer returned a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown as Wilkins led the team with 67 rushing yards and scored a touchdown in his four-straight game, dating back to last season. Fifth-year senior Eric Saubert has continued where he left off from last season as one of the top tight ends in the nation. Last year, he caught 55 passes to lead the nation’s tight ends and ranked in the top-three among tight ends with 506 yards and nine touchdowns. Saubert has led the team in the first two games of the season totaling 13 receptions for 148 yards and two touchdowns. McKendree was picked to finish second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, marking the highest the Bearcats have been ranked in the conference preseason poll. The Bearcats operate a run-first offense as they have tallied 110 carries compared to 53 pass attempts. Shayeen Edwards spearheads the Bearcat offense with 179 rushing yards on 66 attempts. Defensively, A.J. Wentland leads the squad with a team-best 30 tackles, including four for a loss and one sack. He was named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week for his game-high 16 stops last week. Print Friendly Version Video Audio Live Stats McKendree Game Notes center_img Story Links Tickets Drake Game Notes last_img
