Kolkata: Three persons including two policemen were killed when a car rammed into a stationery truck from behind in Nadia’s Nakashipara area on Monday morning, while in a separate accident, a woman and a child died and some 35 got injured that took place in Hooghly district.The death toll has reached five while several others have been stated to be in serious conditions. According to the Nadia district police, the accident occurred on National Highway 34. Deceased have been identified as Tarun Kumar Das, Md Mashud and Pravash Mahato. Mahato was the driver of the vehicle in which the two police men were travelling. Satyabrata Bhowmik, another police personnel travelling in the car, has been undergoing treatment in Shakti Nagar District Hospital in Krishnanagar. He was later shifted to a hospital in the city as his condition deteriorated. When the car was crossing Gacha Bazar area under Nakashipara police station, the vehicle hit a truck from behind.All the three victims died on the spot. According to a preliminary investigation, the police suspect that the driver might have fallen asleep when the accident occurred. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed. The circumstantial evidence suggests that the vehicle was at a top speed at the time of the accident. The bodies were later sent for the post-mortem. The incident caused traffic congestion on National Highway 34 after the incident. The situation was brought under control following the intervention of senior police officers. They seized both the truck and the car. Some of the injured passengers are stated to be in serious conditions. According to a preliminary investigation, the police suspect that the bus was over speeding and this led to the accident.
